Title Description of E.coli Infections with Epidemiological
Data and Clinical Relevance
The
title should read as a sentence that fully describes the work being presented
in the project. It needs to be clear and concise. Above is an example.
Abstract
This
section should include one or two sentences that represent all the sections of
the work. It should be a summary of the whole project. It should be written
last, after you have completed the project as it is a summary.
A.
Background
Information
In
this section, you will include important information about the microbe and its
infection cycle. Talk about the physiology of the microbe, where it is
naturally found, portals of entry needed to cause infection, the infectious
cycle, how it evades the immune response, etc. Relevant information will vary
per microbe.
B.
Disease
Description
Describe
the disease the microbe causes as a result of infection. In this section, you
will be focusing on the clinical aspect of the disease, signs, and symptoms.
*Notice
that in section A, your focus is on the microbiology and molecular biology of
the microbe. This section is a clinical description of the disease.
C.
Epidemiological
Data
Include
epidemiological data for Florida, if available, and the United States. When
relevant, include data from other parts of the world. Include data for recent
epidemics. Also, identify the populations (geographic and demographic
information should be included, like age, race, gender, location, etc.) most at
risk for the disease/infection. Use graphs and figures to aid conveying
information in this section. Talk about the type of outbreak and showcase the
graphs/figures/charts/tables that exemplify. Chapter 13 will introduce
epidemiology concepts that will help you complete this section.
D.
Diagnosis
and Treatment
Explain
how the disease is diagnosed, confirmatory tests if available, and the types of
treatment that exist. Pay attention if the infection is treated or if the
signs/symptoms are being alleviated or both.
E.
Conclusion
The
conclusion is a summary of the most pertinent information you have discussed.
Include areas that can be improved or areas of research and development that
need to be further explored to understand the pathogen better and treat the
disease.
